Digital surveillance

Symbolbild Workshop
Digital surveillance vs. privacy

We leave digital traces everywhere: in social networks, when navigating with a smartphone or when showing bonus cards at the supermarket checkout. Even the content of emails is not always safe from foreign access. But how can we protect our privacy? Do we need better technologies or is a political solution necessary after all? The speaker will also talk about the technology of digital encryption, which protects personal messages against invasions of privacy. What role do the state and global companies play here?

Linda Monsees works in the Cluster of Excellence Normative Orders at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main.

The lecture will take place as part of the lecture series ‘Digital total – Politik im Netz’ at the Blue Square of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum.

The lecture series is organised in cooperation with the Department for University Communication at the Ruhr University Bochum.
