From September 15-19, 2025, the 20th European Conference on Technology Enhanced Learning (ECTEL 2025) took place in Newcastle and Durham, UK. At the conference, the paper “Using Log Data to Analyze the Impact of Adaptive Support on Self-Regulated Learning in Adult Online Education” by Katharina Teich and Prof. Nikol Rummel from the CAIS research program “Educational Technologies and Artificial Intelligence,” together with Conrad Borchers (Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, USA), was awarded the Best Paper Award.
The researchers’ study investigates how adaptive support can influence time management and self-regulated learning (SRL) among adults in online courses. The analysis is based on data from a continuing education program offered by the Academy of Ruhr-University Bochum gGmbH within the framework of the WILLEN project. The results show that adaptive support increases both the regularity and frequency of learning activities.
ECTEL brings together researchers, practitioners, education experts, companies, and policymakers to discuss current developments and challenges in technology-enhanced learning. This year’s conference was held under the theme “Two Decades of TEL: From Lessons Learnt to Challenges Ahead.”
