AI, Media Literacy, and the Role of VHS in a Connected Future

At the Bundesfachkonferenz 2025 in Hamm, Josephine B. Schmitt discusses the impact of AI on education and society, as well as its opportunities and challenges for adult education, followed by a workshop to develop visionary theses.

27. January 2025

AI is transforming education and society: it enables problem-solving, serves as a tool for populist actors, and influences which information reaches us through algorithms. At the same time, it opens up new opportunities, such as through adaptive learning systems. But how significant is its actual impact? What challenges and potentials does it hold for adult education?

Josephine B. Schmitt will address these and related questions at the Bundesfachkonferenz on Politics – Society – Environment 2025 of the Volkshochschulen (Adult Education Centers) on January 27th in Hamm during a panel discussion. In a subsequent workshop, participants will collaboratively develop visionary theses: What role can the VHS play in guiding people into a digital future and actively shaping the dynamics of digital development?
