This year’s SciCAR conference will take place on September 5-6, 2025, in Dortmund. It will focus on the use of AI systems in data analysis, insights into societal developments derived from (social) media data, and the data sources, tools, and databases that are of interest to both journalists and researchers. As part of the conference, Besjon Cifliku, research associate in the CAIS research program “Design of Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence” at CAIS, gives an interactive workshop titled “AI Support for Investigative Reporting: How Can AI Support the Data Workflows of Investigative Journalists?”. He will discuss how investigative journalists can improve their data work using AI tools.

The SciCAR conference (Where Science meets Computer Assisted Reporting) aims to bring together data journalists and researchers from different fields for exchange of ideas and methods, to learn from each other as well as initiate collaborations. Its focus is contributions with high practical value and include topics ranging from data-driven analysis of social trends, AI in journalism and research, technical training to best practices in data visualization and interactivity. The organizers are TU Dortmund, Wissenschaftspressekonferenz, Science Media Center Germany, and Netzwerk Recherche.
