25. June 2024

On June 26, Mitra Shamsi will present her research at the Research Day on Intersectional Gender Politics, organized by the gender studies research group within the political and social sciences department at Freie Universität Berlin.

Her presentation focuses on the generation and circulation of various narratives and images regarding women’s issues in multiple digital spaces during the recent “Women, Life, Freedom” uprising in Iran. Her research examines how digital media platforms have become battlegrounds for rival political narratives competing for visibility and legitimacy during the movement. She particularly focuses on the discursive struggles by Iranian feminists and women’s rights campaigners in response to the resurgence of forms of nationalism manifested by different competing political forces during the movement.

Mitra Shamsi, a third-party researcher at the CAIS, has currently started a visiting fellowship at the Margherita von Brentano Center for Gender Studies (MvBZ) at FU Berlin for the summer of 2024.
