On January 1, 2026, Prof. Christoph Bieber, head of the CAIS research program “Digital Democratic Innovations,” will take over the leadership of the “Law and Ethics” working group of the Learning Systems Platform (PLS) together with legal scholar Anne Lauber-Rönsberg from Dresden University of Technology. The PLS brings together expertise from science, business, and society to position Germany internationally as a technology leader for learning systems. It sees itself as a place for exchange and cooperation. The chairpersons of the steering committee are Dorothee Bär from the Federal Ministry for Research, Technology, and Space, and Claudia Eckert from acatech, the German Academy of Science and Engineering.
The Law & Ethics Working Group meets approximately four times a year to discuss current topics and develop various output formats for the platform’s work. Among other things, this results in detailed white papers on current topics in the field of artificial intelligence (most recently, for example: AI & administrative modernization; AI in the super election year), compact overviews, interviews, and video formats designed to reach a broader audience. The platform is also active at major events in the field of digitalization, such as the German government’s Digital Summit and re:publica.
