Following the publication of “OECD Digital Education Outlook 2026: Exploring Effective Uses of Generative AI in Education,” the OECD project team “Smart Data and Digital Technology in Education” is organizing an international online conference from 23 to 24 March 2026. It brings together leading researchers, representatives from ministries, international organizations, EdTech companies, and other education stakeholders to discuss the key findings of the report and insights gained from peer-learning activities in depth.
In the conference session “GenAI and learning: applying learning science with AI,” Prof. Nikol Rummel and Dr. Sebastian Strauß from the CAIS research program “Educational Technologies and Artificial Intelligence” will present their contribution on “Fostering collaborative learning and promoting collaboration skills: What generative AI could contribute.” The session will take place on Tuesday, 24 March 2026, from 5 to 6 PM.
The session will demonstrate how GenAI should be designed and used based on findings from learning and teaching research, with a particular focus on examples from the OECD Digital Education Outlook 2026. After discussing, based on insights from computer-supported collaborative learning, how GenAI can support this setting, it will be shown how GenAI can help promote creative skills or assist teachers in developing more effective warm-up exercises or varying teaching strategies.
