Liberal democratic states are facing profound political changes. Keywords are: Populism, crises, authoritarianism. It is to be examined to what extent these changes can be attributed to a structural change in political communication driven by digitalisation. Aspects of structural change are highlighted, such as pluralisation of communication actors or individual specification of communication content
