The Interdisciplinary Center for Machine Learning and Data Analytics (IZMD) at the University of Wuppertal promotes cross-faculty research and knowledge transfer in the fields of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data analytics. It combines academic research with practice-oriented transfer activities and cooperates with regional businesses, civil society, public institutions, and other partners. In addition, the IZMD supports relevant degree programs by facilitating subject-specific internships and developing application-oriented content and formats. As part of a colloquium organized by the IZMD, Prof. Hendrik Heuer is going to give a talk titled “Designing Trust: Human Agency in the Age of AI” on June 5, 2025.

His talk will revolve around the question which role humans should play in a world increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence. Prof. Hendrik Heuer will share a vision for human-centered AI that places human agency at its core. Drawing on his research in participatory design, social media platforms, educational technologies, and AI in journalism, he will explain how systems can be built not just for people, but with them. Topics such as designing trustworthy chatbots, navigating the ethical complexities of content moderation and dealing with disinformation are critically reflected upon. The talk will outline ways to create trustworthy, co-created designed digital infrastructures.
