Artificial intelligence is increasingly shaping the dynamics of social media – from personalized content to deceptively realistic deepfakes. This poses new challenges for civic education: How can we foster digital literacy and critical thinking? And how can society respond to disinformation that particularly targets younger audiences?
These questions are the focus of the policy dialogue “Digital Na(t)ive – AI, Civic Education and Social Media Trends”, which takes place on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the State Parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia in Düsseldorf. The event is hosted by the CDU parliamentary group of North Rhine-Westphalia. Among the panelists is Dr. Matthias Begenat, Head of Science Communication at the Center for Advanced Internet Studies (CAIS).
Program Overview
The event begins with welcome remarks by Klaus Voussem MdL, Deputy Chair of the CDU parliamentary group NRW, and Gonca Türkeli-Dehnert, State Secretary at the Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia. These will be followed by keynote statements from:
