As part of the New Fall Festival 2025, re:publica is bringing a branch to North Rhine-Westphalia, creating space for debates on digital issues, society, and democracy.
A central program highlight of the event is the panel discussion “Digital Spaces for Democracy,” in which Dr. Josephine B. Schmitt, scientific coordinator at CAIS, together with Martin Andree (University of Cologne), Eda Öztürk (MIKRASS|Migrant Collective for Journalism and Social Media), and Markus Beckedahl (re:publica|Center for Digital Rights and Democracy), and Nathanael Liminski (Minister for Federal and European Affairs, International Affairs, and Media of North Rhine-Westphalia and Head of the State Chancellery) will discuss key challenges and opportunities of digital public spheres. The re:publica Berlin, as a festival for the digital society, is the largest conference of its kind in Europe and focuses on topics related to the digital society, internet culture, internet policy, blogs, and other social media. Participants include representatives from academia, politics, business, hacker cultures, NGOs, media, and marketing, as well as bloggers, activists, artists, and social media experts.
