As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen innovation capacity across Europe, the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) has selected 47 projects for funding under the EIT Higher Education Initiative. The EIT is an integral part of Horizon Europe, the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation. Among these projects is HEI-TRAIN, a newly launched initiative that combines AI, entrepreneurship, and social inclusion to modernize higher education institutions. Dr. Tetiana Gorokhova, a researcher at the Center for Advanced Internet Studies (CAIS), is participating in the project. She emphasizes the significance of its approach:
“HEI-TRAIN offers a timely response to the urgent need for inclusive, future-oriented education. By integrating AI with entrepreneurship and targeting support for underrepresented groups such as migrants and displaced persons, the project aligns closely with my research at CAIS on digital transformation and social resilience. I’m proud to contribute to building pathways for more equitable innovation in higher education.”
Led by Mykolas Romeris University (Lithuania), the HEI-TRAIN project brings together 11 full and associated partners from Germany, Ukraine, Latvia, and Lithuania. With support from EIT Food and coordination by EIT RawMaterials, the project was launched in April 2025.
HEI-TRAIN aims to transform higher education institutions by:
- Implementing interdisciplinary educational programs on AI and entrepreneurship
- Establishing International Freelancer Schools (IFS) to support women, migrants, and internally displaced persons (IDPs)
- Building a Modular Network of Partners to connect academia, research, and business
