Prof. Hendrik Heuer has been appointed as an expert member of Inquiry Commission IV of the Parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia, titled “Artificial Intelligence – Towards a Smart State in a Digitalized Society.”

Given the rapid advancements in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) in recent years, the NRW State Parliament has decided to establish an inquiry commission to examine the use of AI in key policy areas. The focus will be on:

  • Economy and growth,
  • Innovation,
  • Education and training,
  • Security and civil rights, and
  • AI in everyday life and locally.

As a first step, the commission will identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and risks associated with AI. Based on these findings, concrete policy recommendations will be developed to serve as a foundation for a new AI strategy for the state government.

With his academic expertise, Prof. Heuer will support the commission’s work and provide insights to help shape decision-making on the future use of AI in North Rhine-Westphalia. At the meeting on February 7, 2025, he gave his first thematic input.
