The Weizenbaum Institute’s digital exhibition “Pioneer, Sceptic, Activist: The Turning Points in the Life of Joseph Weizenbaum” is now available online. The exhibition sheds light on the life and work of Joseph Weizenbaum, one of the most influential thinkers in the field of computer science and ethics of technology.

Hendrik Heuer, who was awarded the Weizenbaum Study Prize in 2021 for his research in the field of machine learning, has contributed an essay to the exhibition. In his contribution, he reminds us how relevant Weizenbaum’s thoughts are in times of ChatGPT and other AI technologies. Weizenbaum’s critical view of the relationship between man and machine offers valuable insights that are particularly relevant today.
