The Professional School of Education (PSE) invites alumni from Bochum, Bielefeld, Duisburg-Essen, Cologne, and Siegen to the Lehrkräfte PLUS alumni conference on the topic of “Lehrer:innengesundheit” (EN: teachers’ health) at the Ruhr University Bochum on November 15, 2025. As part of this event, Dr. Astrid WichmannAstrid Wichmann, science manager in CAIS research program “Educational Technologies and Artificial Intelligence,” conducts a two-part workshop titled “KI als Unterstützung für Lehrkräfte: Entlastung, Chancen und Herausforderungen” (EN: AI as Support for Teachers: Relief, Opportunities, and Challenges). The first part of the workshop covers the different types of education-specific and non-education-specific AI systems. Their key features will be analyzed in order to develop an understanding of the potential and limitations of using these systems in the classroom. In the second part, selected studies are used to explore the extent to which the use of AI can support learning. In a following discussion build on the participants’ teaching experiences it will be elaborated under what conditions the use of AI in a school context is actually worthwhile.
The project Lehrkräfte PLUS has been offered at the Ruhr University Bochum since April 2018 and is a one-year vocational training program focusing on teachers with a refugee background. During this time, participants learn about the core topics of everyday school life in Germany in theory and practice, as well as improve their language skills – as a first step towards returning to teaching in North Rhine-Westphalia for international teachers.
