Under the theme “Contemporary Feminist Liberation Struggles: bodies, borders, and intersections”, the 12th European Feminist Research Conference will take place from July 9 to 12, 2025, at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) in Spain. The triennial conference is organized by ATGENDER – The European Association for Gender Research, Education and Documentation – in collaboration with the UAB and the Inter-University Women and Gender Studies Institute (IIEDG). ATGENDER connects academics, activists, practitioners and institutions from the fields of gender, queer, trans* and sexuality studies as well as feminist theory and practice in Europe. The aim is to promote knowledge, strengthen international cooperation and increase the visibility of feminist and intersectional perspectives in research, education and society.
The conference addresses global inequalities, violent conflicts, (neo-)colonial power structures, and feminist forms of resistance. It focuses on interdisciplinary perspectives on bodies, borders, and social entanglements, aiming to highlight the transformative potential of feminist research and practice. Through lectures, panels, and workshops, the event promotes intersectional, queer, anticolonial, and justice-oriented approaches, encouraging creative dialogue and active participation.
As part of this event, Dr. Mitra Shamsi, guest researcher at CAIS, contributes to the panel discussion “Digital feminist activism, archives, and affective narratives” on Friday, July 11, 2025. She will speak upon the role of competing gendered narratives in shaping Farsi digital spaces following the Iranian Women, Life, Freedom movement.
