A representative survey of researchers in DFG research alliances (n=5326) shows that the problems in research alliances are less serious than suspected. The problems identified in earlier qualitative studies, such as fairness, commitment, difference, management or communication problems, do not endanger the work in alliances in the view of the participants. There are also no significant differences between types of consortia or between characteristics of researchers such as status and discipline with regard to the assessment of the relevance of the problems.
