“How propagandistically do international news channels report?”

Gerhard Vowe will give a presentation at the 73rd Annual Conference of the International Communication Association in Toronto.

6. February 2023

“Propaganda” is persuasive communication that is ideologically shaped, i.e. spreads a world view with an absolute claim to truth. The YouTube broadcasts of the nine international news channels with the largest reach are examined in the study by content analysis. Differentiated profiles of the individual channels emerge. A comparison with a propaganda index shows: stations from autocratic states, such as Russia’s RT and China’s CGPT, report less propagandistically than expected. And on the other hand, the reporting of stations from democratic states, such as CNN International, contains more propagandistic elements than expected.
