Ann-Christin Falhs, research associate in the CAIS research program “Educational Technologies and Artificial Intelligence,” conducts a further education course for teachers at the RUB Teachers Academy on the topic of “Mathelernen in der Grundschule mit KI – Lernen mit intelligenten tutoriellen Systemen” (EN: Learning Math in Elementary School with AI – Learning with Intelligent Tutoring Systems) on November 6, 2025, focusing on how artificial intelligence can support learning in elementary schools. Participants will gain an overview of various AI applications in education, with a particular focus on intelligent tutoring systems (ITS) and their use in promoting basic mathematical skills in mathematics lessons. She highlights how these adaptive learning systems assess learning progress levels, tailor subsequent tasks accordingly, and provide real-time guidance and feedback. In the subsequent practical part of the course, participants have the opportunity to try out such a system for themselves and then reflect on their experiences, opportunities, and limitations of using AI in the classroom.
