Dr Jennifer Meyer will speak on 27 June on the topic of “Automated feedback in writing lessons: potentials and challenges of (generative) artificial intelligence”. The lecture will take place from 14:15 to 15:45 at Ruhr-Universität Bochum in room GA 2/41 in a hybrid format. Interested parties are cordially invited to attend. Please register in advance with Astrid Wichmann.
Writing is a central communicative competence in a globalised society. In order to promote writing skills, high-quality practice opportunities with individual feedback are important. However, especially for complex writing products, such as argumentative essays, this requires a great deal of time and cognitive resources on the part of teachers. Artificial intelligence offers new opportunities to support teachers in providing feedback on written performance and thus increase the number of personalised learning opportunities. In this presentation, Jennifer Meyer will present current empirical findings on the effectiveness of AI-generated feedback in the context of writing from the perspective of students and teachers. Potentials and challenges in the implementation of AI-based feedback systems in the classroom as well as future research areas will be discussed.
Jennifer Meyer is a postdoctoral researcher and junior research group leader in the Department of Educational Science and Educational Psychology at the Leibniz Institute for Science and Mathematics Education in Kiel. She studied psychology and received her doctorate in 2019 on the prediction of school performance at Kiel University. In her research, she focuses on cognitive and non-cognitive determinants in the prediction of school performance, learning motivation, automatic assessment and promotion of writing performance as well as the potentials and challenges of (generative) AI in education.
