Asked to contribute to a segment on the ARD Mittagsmagazin, we provided the following statement:
“Short-term, we call for the public’s attention to be specifically directed toward facts and accurate information, avoiding the repetition of misinformation. Information, such as about mail-in voting, must be proactively made available, and false claims should be swiftly countered with well-founded arguments before they gain traction. For this, a reporting center is needed to identify false information early and provide it promptly to independent fact-checkers. Long-term, it is essential to sustainably promote political education and media literacy. Only in this way can misinformation be effectively and permanently addressed.”
Parts of this statement were featured in the ARD Mittagsmagazin on January 22nd in a segment titled Fake News in Election Campaigns – A Real Danger on Social Media.
