Mitra Shamsi Discusses Mobile Ethnography in Digital Activism Research

On 18 September, Mitra Shamsi will present her research on digital feminist activism in Iran at the Symposium on Cyberfeminism in the Middle East and North Africa Region at Cardiff University.

18. September 2024

On 18 September, Dr Mitra Shamsi will present remotely her research at the Symposium on Cyberfeminism in the Middle East and North Africa Region: Concepts, Case Studies, Methodologies, taking place at Cardiff University in the United Kingdom.

In her presentation titled Mapping Digital Feminist Activism in Iran: A Multisited Mobile Ethnography, Dr Shamsi presents the methodological approach she used to study Iranian digital feminist activism.

She explains that she used a “multi-sited mobile ethnography” to capture the complex and dynamic nature of online activism. This approach was chosen because feminist discourses are spread across many different platforms and are constantly on the move. In contrast to traditional single case studies, this method follows ongoing discussions in multiple digital spaces to address the challenges posed by a field characterised by ephemeral content and changing participant engagement.
