Panel discussion on “AI and democracy: opportunities and risks”

Christoph Bieber from the DDI research programme was part of the discussion panel "AI and Democracy" on 18 April in Leipzig.

19. April 2024

How is the increased use of AI changing the requirements for media and technology skills among citizens? What needs to be done to promote diversity and social cohesion? How can we counter disinformation, the formation of filter bubbles and polarisation in society and maintain or restore trust in view of the possibilities of AI? Who has a duty and must take responsibility? What regulatory and supervisory measures are required and what standards and guidelines should apply in the media landscape in order to uphold democratic values? And what can we expect from the AI Act, which was passed by the European Parliament on 13 March and plays a pioneering role in the regulation of AI worldwide?

Prof. Christoph Bieber from the Digital Democratic Innovations research programme was part of the panel discussion on 18 April 2024 together with Philipp Otto, Dr Eva Flecken, Alois Krtil and Irina Orssich in Leipzig.
