
Starting April 1, 2025, Prof. Dr. Tim A. Majchrzak will join the leadership of the Center for Advanced Internet Studies (CAIS) as Scientific Director. Together with Scientific Director, Prof. Dr. Christiane Eilders, and the Executive Director, Michael Paul, the renowned professor of information systems will form the executive board of the institute for digitalization research, based in Bochum. Communication scientist Christiane Eilders and computer scientist Tim Majchrzak will jointly lead the scientific direction of CAIS, integrating the perspectives of technical and social sciences at the management level. Through his joint appointment by CAIS and Ruhr University Bochum, Tim Majchrzak will also become a professor for Computing, Technology and Society at the Faculty of Computer Science at Ruhr University.
Tim Majchrzak is taking on the role of Scientific Director at CAIS with great enthusiasm. With his expertise and keen interest in the societal impact of technological innovations, he aims to drive pioneering research in collaboration with Christiane Eilders and the CAIS team. After several years in Norway, where he gained valuable experience, his appointment at CAIS marks both a return to his roots in the Ruhr region and an opportunity to contribute his international experience to the institute’s research.
Tim Majchrzak worked at the University of Agder (UiA) in Norway for over ten years, most recently for five years as a Professor in Information Systems. Prior to that, he served as a deputy professor at the University of Cologne for two years. Tim Majchrzak studied Business and Information Systems Engineering and earned his doctorate in economics and habilitation in business and information systems at the University of Münster.
In his research, Tim Majchrzak combines technical, organizational, and social aspects of software engineering, with a particular focus on mobile computing. At the same time, he engages intensively with interdisciplinary topics in information systems, especially in the context of crisis management and prevention. As a member of the research group Centre for Integrated Emergency Management (CIEM) at the University of Agder, he explored how technological innovations can enhance emergency preparedness and management. His projects are application-oriented, integrating scientific insights with industrial and societal needs.
