The State Chancellery of North Rhine-Westphalia will host the “Round Table on Data Access” on 30 September 2025 at the Representation of North Rhine-Westphalia to the European Union in Brussels, Belgium. The event aims to provide researchers from North Rhine-Westphalia and neighboring European countries, together with representatives of the European Commission and digital platforms, the opportunity to discuss application procedures, challenges in accessing data, data protection considerations, and planned research projects. Among the participants are also Prof. Johannes Breuer and Dr. Marco Wähner from the “Research Data & Methods” team at CAIS.
A central topic will be the Digital Services Act (DSA), the key legislation regulating online platforms. The goal is to enable researchers to gain improved access to platform data, for example to study the spread of disinformation. With the delegated act published by the European Commission in early July 2025, the concrete rules for implementation have now been established.
