Social Media and Mental Health – Guest: PD Dr. Julia Brailovskaia

Looking at our mobile phones, opening apps and receiving notifications about likes have long been a constant companion in everyday life. But what effects does this actually have on our psyche?

4. May 2022

Social media have become an integral part of the daily lives of millions of people. Looking at their mobile phones, opening apps and receiving notifications about likes and shares have long been a constant companion in everyday life. But what impact does this actually have on us? How much social media is perhaps too much social media? What are the consequences for our psyche? And: how can we learn to use social media in a healthy way?

Silke Offergeld and Dr Matthias Begenat discuss these questions with their guest, private lecturer Dr Julia Brailovskaia. She is a research associate at the Department of Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy at the Ruhr University Bochum. Julia researches the effects of social media on mental health and is currently a fellow at CAIS.

Note: We recorded the conversation before the attack on Ukraine.
