Artificial intelligence (AI) has arrived in schools! According to surveys, over 70 per cent of young people believe that the use of AI in schools offers great opportunities (Vodafone Foundation Youth Study, 2024). Teachers are still hesitant to use text-generative AI and other AI applications in the classroom. A responsible and learning-promoting use of AI requires an understanding of the systems currently used in the classroom, their characteristics and their support potential. This presentation will therefore take a differentiated look at selected AI systems. Various AI applications for teaching will be presented and their use categorised against the background of empirical studies. It will also discuss the challenges that currently arise when using AI in the classroom and the opportunities that AI applications offer to support teachers.
The lecture will take place on Wednesday, 28.08.2024 at 6 pm in Bochum.
