The Ruhr University Bochum hosted the 115th MNU-Bundeskongress from May 1 to May 4, 2025, supported by the “Professional School of Education” as a cooperation partner. The MNU is the national association for the promotion of STEM education and organizes this annual conference. Under this year’s motto “Shaping Spaces and Teaching – Rethinking Education for the Future” (Räume und Unterricht gestalten – Bildung zukunftsorientiert denken), the event offered a diverse program of workshops and lectures that highlighted current topics and innovative approaches in the field of education.
As part of the congress, Ann-Christin Falhs, research associate at CAIS, gave a talk on May 2 about the role of artificial intelligence in the classroom. She introduced various AI applications, discussed their differences, and explored how these technologies can support both teachers and students. A particular focus was placed on so-called Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS) and their use in mathematics education. The participants also had the opportunity to try out such an adaptive or intelligent tutoring system themselves. Together with the attendees, Ann-Christin Falhs discussed their experiences and reflected on potential applications.
