With this addition, CAIS is specifically strengthening its ties to computer science and systematically expanding its research on digitalization topics. The goal of the partnership is to leverage TU Dortmund’s outstanding expertise in social research and information technology for collaborative research projects. In addition, a joint professorship on digital transformation in work and society is in the works.

TU Dortmund University also sees great potential in the cooperation:
“Joining CAIS opens up excellent opportunities for knowledge transfer and research on digitalization. Together, we will develop practical solutions and further connect our research efforts,” explains Prof. Dr. Manfred Bayer, Rector of TU Dortmund University.
In the future, a joint appointment is planned for a professorship in the social sciences following the Jülich model. This professorship, based at both the Faculty of Social Sciences at TU Dortmund University and CAIS, will focus on a research program at CAIS addressing questions of digital transformation in work and society.
In addition to TU Dortmund, the shareholders of CAIS include Ruhr University Bochum, the University of Duisburg-Essen, Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, the University of Münster, the Grimme Institute, GESIS – Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences, the University of Wuppertal, and RWI – Leibniz Institute for Economic Research.
