Web videos in the classroom? Social media as a media pedagogical challenge for the classroom

ABSTRACT:
YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Twitch etc.: The list of platforms that function via moving images and web videos is getting longer and longer.

In order to be able to meaningfully integrate digital video platforms such as YouTube, Instagram or TikTok into the classroom, these teaching materials offer a suggestion and possible support for teachers. The aim of the contents is to strengthen the media and information competence of young people. The teaching materials are recommended for pupils from grade 8 onwards from all types of schools.

What are the intentions behind the videos we watch every day on our smartphones or laptops? Who is behind the videos and with what aim were they produced and uploaded? With these questions, the worksheet presented here guides you through the lesson using exemplary videos. The videos can also be supplemented or exchanged with your own video suggestions or suggestions from the pupils.
