11. June 2025

On 21 June 2025, the Digital Awareness Day disCONNECT & CREATE will take place at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf. The event brings together young people and experts from academia, business, and culture to discuss the societal impact of digital technologies. The program includes workshops, panels, a keynote, interactive challenges, and networking opportunities. At its core, the festival invites participants to critically reflect on digital technologies and explore how they can be used meaningfully.

AI in Everyday Life: Recognizing and Resisting Discrimination

Ahrabhi Kathirgamanathan, researcher in the CAIS program “Social Cohesion in Digital Media Environments”, will lead a workshop titled “Who makes the decision? What everyone should know about AI & discrimination.” The session takes place from 2:30 to 4:00 PM and focuses on algorithmic decision-making systems in everyday situations – such as job applications, social media, or housing. The workshop explores whether such systems are fair and how digital discrimination can be identified and challenged.

The festival is part of the futuremeetsYOU! initiative and is primarily aimed at pupils, students, and young professionals. CAIS is a partner of the event. Participation is free of charge.
