In this project, Dr Alisa Maksimova investigates learning about and with Artificial Intelligence (AI) in informal learning environments.
Dr Maksimova’s project investigates (a) how museum exhibitions about AI present the topic and (b) what kind of technology is used to educate the public about AI. Currently, AI is mainly an exhibition topic in science and technology museums and art galleries. Visitors rarely read or hear about AI, but may encounter it without realising it. In this project, Dr Maksimova investigates whether exhibitions use AI-based technologies to discuss AI and explores how visitors experience exhibitions about AI. In addition, she investigates what images, myths and narratives about AI are present in museums and compares them with those constructed in social and traditional mass media, popular culture and political discourse. In a current case study, which includes museum exhibitions on AI in Germany, she analyses their content and design and conducts interviews with museum curators.
