Not only in society, but also in various fields of research, AI is ascribed the ability to know or act, e.g. in the area of human-machine interaction. Even though such attributions are often made in connection with the concept of simulation, I believe there is confusion about what we really mean when we attribute knowledge and the ability to act to beings. This is why in my dissertation I criticise the conceptualisation of AI and work with Kant on what it means to know and to act. Another way to formulate the question is: What does it mean to be a rational subject? Or: What does it mean to recognise oneself and possibly also an AI as a reasonable subject? My aim is to show that reasonable subjectivity and thus the unity of theoretical and practical reason is necessarily tied to the concept of the living being.
