The Internet Policy Review was founded in 2012 by the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society (HIIG) as one of the first journals to systematically address the dynamic topics of internet research. Over the past ten years, it has evolved into a central platform for exchanging ideas on digital transformation. As an open-access publication, it fosters dialogue between academia and society and enriches the debate on the pressing challenges of the digital age. The journal is jointly published by the Center for Advanced Internet Studies and the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society.

About the Journal

The Internet Policy Review monitors both public regulatory changes and private policy developments that are expected to have long-term impacts on European societies. The journal serves as a valuable resource for academics, civil society representatives, entrepreneurs, media professionals, and policymakers. It contributes to the contemporary debate on media, information technology, telecommunications, and internet governance by providing empirical research, in-depth analysis, and up-to-date reporting. Increasingly, the opportunities and challenges involved in shaping the digital society come into focus — for example, through policy recommendations or reports on the development of digital technologies.

Key Topics:

  • Diversity
  • Governance
  • Infrastructure & Standards
  • Information & Data
  • Innovation
