MeMo:KI – Population survey

Results of the monthly population survey on artificial intelligence prepared in the dashboard
Logo MeMo:KI

We continuously monitor the formation of public opinion with our monthly population survey on the topic of artificial intelligence. How do respondents rate different areas of application for AI? Is the use of AI in healthcare desirable? What does the population think about current capabilities of AI?

Population opinion dashboard

The results of the population survey can be found here in our dashboard. In addition to an overview of the results, you also have the option of displaying the data broken down by age group, for example. To do so, click on “In-depth analyses”.

How can the MeMo:KI Dashboard be used?

Here you will find a short guide to the “frequency distributions” and “in-depth analyses” of our dashboard. To do so, click through the four instruction steps. Are there any terms that are still unclear to you? You can find explanations in the glossary of terms on the right. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Mean values

The mean value shows how all respondents answered on average. Each answer to a question is included in the calculation of the mean value. These are added together and then divided by the number of all answers. Mean values give us an impression of how the population tends to answer.

Top Box

Respondents had the option of indicating their response on a five-, seven- or eleven-point scale. We are often interested in how many people “tend to agree” or “completely agree” with a statement, for example. In this case, we summarize the highest values. Depending on the size of the scale, a different number of values are aggregated. For each question, please pay attention to the explanatory note on how many of the top values are shown in aggregate.

Bottom Box

Respondents had the option of indicating their response on a five-, seven- or eleven-point scale. We are often interested in how many people “tend to” or “completely” disagree with a statement, for example. In this case, we summarize the lowest values. Depending on the size of the scale, a different number of values are aggregated. For each question, please pay attention to the note in the explanation of how many of the lowest values are presented in aggregate.

Show 95% confidence intervals

Since surveys only ask questions of a certain part of the population (sample), the value found is rarely exactly the value that would also be found if all the people who are to be represented by the sample were asked (population). Confidence intervals show us in which range the actual value, i.e. the value for the population, lies. We can thus say that there is a 95% probability that the mean value of the population lies between the lower and upper end of the confidence interval.

Number of media reports on artificial intelligence

We analyze media coverage of AI in the 32 widest-reach print and online media in Germany. Here you can see how many articles on AI were published in the respective month.
