Dr. Feng Liu joined CAIS to conduct her sabbatical research projects from January to June 2026.
Research Profile
Dr. Liu’s work investigates the responsible design, adoption, and social impact of emerging digital technologies, especially those that blend immersive 3D experiences with intelligent interaction. Building on extensive experience in 3D computer graphics, Web3D technologies, and Human–Computer Interaction, Dr. Liu examines how systems such as the Metaverse and AI-augmented environments can be developed and governed in ways that positively support human well-being and meaningful educational outcomes.
Current Research Projects
- Responsible Metaverse User Experience (UX): Exploring how three-dimensional web platforms and virtual environments can be built with ethical transparency and user psychological health in mind.
- Responsible AI & UX Technology Policy on 3D Virtual Environments: Investigating user experience as a framework for policy, governance, and psychological impact, with particular attention to vulnerable populations, such as young users.
- Technology Adoption and Overuse in Early Education: Studying how much is enough when integrating technology into young learners’ lives, including cognitive, social, and developmental effects.
- AI-Enhanced Curriculum: Developing AI-enhanced Software Development and Human-Computer Interaction majors by integrating AI into the classroom. At the same time, researching how artificial intelligence can support students’ personalized learning and teacher facilitation without diminishing human agency or pedagogical richness.
Academic Background & Experience
Prof. Liu holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science with a specialization in 3D Computer Graphics, 3D Web, and Human–Computer Interaction. As a Professor of Informatics, she has developed and taught undergraduate user-centered software application development curricula and has led the Department of Informatics and Mathematics in the development of an Applied Data Intelligence and Machine Learning graduate degree program. Dr. Liu’s work bridges technical innovation with humanistic inquiry, seeking to create technologies that are applicable, beneficial, and aligned with real human needs.
