Human-Centered Security & Privacy Research and Surveillance

Vortrag

This talk explores 1) how surveillance shapes the experiences of individuals coerced to use technology, 2) how computer vision research contributes to surveillance, and 3) how we might develop new methodological frameworks to help researchers detect and mitigate the harms of surveillance. Using methods from human-centered security and privacy research, I analyze surveillance in the U.S. criminal legal system, in the U.S. immigration system, and in patents that cite academic publications. I end the talk by describing my current surveillance-related work that aims to inform ongoing technology policy debates.
