Smartphones have changed our society tremendously. They have altered how we communicate, connect, learn, work, gather information, participate in society, and many other aspects of life. In recent years, it has become very clear that if researchers want to investigate the effects of mobile devices on society, they need to have access to tools and data to do so. Logging mobile application usage on smartphones is limited to rather general system events unless one has access to the operating system’s or applications‘ source code. Long-term screen capturing or recording illuminates this „black box“ of in-app behavior. Automated analysis of these screen recordings allows for the capture of specific in-app activities (such as sharing or reading political content) by employing artificial intelligence, computer vision, and machine learning. The talk will present the general idea of this mobile tracking approach and current research perspectives.
Unfortunately, Prof. Dr. Philipp Krieter’s talk has to be postponed. A new date will be scheduled soon. We apologize for the inconvenience!
