MENA Digital School @ CAIS

On 29 September, the CAIS is organising a programme day on the topic of “Smart City” as part of the MENA Digital School. In addition to getting to know each other and exchanging ideas with participants about their projects, the agenda includes inputs on “Equitable Smart Cites”, the smart city strategy of the city of Bochum and the agility concept of CAIS. We look forward to welcoming the participants of the MENA Digital School and their chairs, Prof. Dr. Dr. Ayad Al-Ani and Daniel Gerlach, to CAIS. We are also particularly pleased about the cooperation with the Smart City Innovation Unit of the City of Bochum, which will be represented by Julia Ostrode and Alice Redhardt.

Programme:

  • 11:00 – 11:30: Welcome and Introduction to the Center for Advanced Internet Studies (Michael Baurmann, CAIS Scientific Director, & Team)
  • 11:30 – 13:00: Julia Ostrode (Smart City Innovation Unit Bochum): “Smart City Bochum – Overview and Case Examples” (Presentation & Workshop)

  • 14:00 – 14:30: Dr. Mennatullah Hendawy (CAIS): “Equitable Smart Cities” (Talk)

  • 16:15 – 16:45: Samuel Simon: Applied Design Thinking in Research & Learnings for Agile, Participatory Processes

The MENA Digital Summer School is a hybrid digital transformation seminar aimed at emerging innovators from the MENA region in the field of digital transformation. The courses include basic modules on data management, machine learning, strategic planning as well as addressing specific issues of digitalisation in the MENA region. Socio-political aspects and scenarios of digital transformation in the MENA region are also addressed. Part of the curriculum are collaborative workshops and excursions to digital leaders from business, science and media in Germany. The aim of the school is to promote leadership skills among young professionals and to address the digital transformation as a common challenge for societies in Europe and the MENA region.

The MENA Digital Summer School is organised by the Candid Foundation and supported by the State Chancellery of North Rhine-Westphalia, in cooperation with the Digital Arabia Network, the Einstein Center Digital Future, the Center for Advanced Internet Studies (CAIS) and the Fernuniversität Hagen. The first phase of the MENA DS project was funded by the German Federal Foreign Office.
