AI is already (often unnoticed) an integral part of many areas of our lives. A wide variety of speculations are associated with further fields of application. This applies not only to the technology itself, but also to the attitude of citizens towards artificial intelligence. We often read of great concerns about comprehensive surveillance or of huge expectations on the part of citizens – but mostly without empirical basis.
With our guests Pero Došenović and Kimon Kieslich from Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, we talk about how artificial intelligence is actually perceived by the population and how AI is reported on in the media. And about why knowing exactly that is not so unimportant.
Is the population afraid of AI use? How interested are citizens in the topic of AI? What are their expectations? And how does the media report on artificial intelligence? Are there main topics and dominant perspectives?
Kimon and Pero are working as research assistants in the “Meinungsmonitor Künstliche Intelligenz” project, in which they are monitoring public and published opinion on AI. The project is funded by the Mercator Foundation and conducted in a research partnership with CAIS. In this episode, you can find out what exactly the two are investigating with the MeMo:AI team, how exactly they arrive at their results and what fascinates them about their work.
