In a blog post from 14.09.2022, the third State of the European Union speech by EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen was analysed and summarised by various academics.

Contents on digitalisation

Contrary to possible assumptions, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen did not make the digital transformation or European digital policy an explicit topic in her “State of the European Union” speech on 14 September 2022. Although she referred to the general importance of digitalisation, she only specifically mentioned the need to secure the EU’s access to raw materials in order to be as independent as possible from third countries for further digital expansion.
