On 15 March 2024, Josephine B. Schmitt will present the keynote speech on the topic of “Between word violence and stigmatisation: discrimination, representation deficits and extremism in the (digital) media” as part of the symposium “Language – Power – Diversity” at the University of Cologne. She will then take part in the subsequent panel discussion.

The keynote will deal with problematic labelling practices in social media. A particular focus will be on labelling practices in right-wing extremist propaganda in social media and how these are taken up and disseminated in media and social discourses.

Samuel Simon is also represented at the symposium with a workshop on “Language-sensitive labelling practices: a design thinking workshop”.

To participate, the project asks you to register by email by 26 February 2024: sprache-macht-diversitaet@uni-koeln.de
